The University of Lincoln’s Joseph Banks Laboratories houses new research and training facilities for the Schools of Chemistry, Pharmacy, Life Sciences and Geography. These are complement by teaching laboratory facilities in the well-equipped and extensively enhanced Janet Lane-Claypon Building. The JBL Schools Technical Team provide laboratory teaching and research support across these buildings for the students and staff as well as for the commercial facilities offered by JBL Science.

We seeking to employ an experienced analytical chemistry technician to supervise the running of our synthetic and analytical chemistry teaching laboratories to support undergraduate practical teaching and postgraduate research.  The post will be based in the Janet Lane Claypon Building on the Brayford campus, with a requirement to work in the nearby Joseph Banks Research Laboratories when needed to support research and commercial lab work. 

The applicant will be a graduate / postgraduate in analytical chemistry or a related subject. You will be required to supervise a team of 4 technicians to ensure the effective running of the teaching laboratories that delivers practical classes in analytical and synthetic chemistry as well as some pharmaceutical science classes. You will have a good understanding of, and experience in, the use and maintenance of a range of analytical equipment, particularly HPLC and GCMS. Experience of ICP-OES, AAS, FTIR, Raman and UV spectrophotometry would also be an advantage.  

Other duties will include the supervision of students (undergraduate and postgraduate) during their project work by demonstrating how equipment works and troubleshooting when required; liaising with academic staff to discuss practical /project requirements; ensuring the laboratories are kept safe and organised; providing support to the Instrument Scientists in the Joseph Banks Research & Commercial labs who oversee the running of those labs. You will need to be flexible in the hours and locations worked and you will be part of a larger team, supporting colleagues in other areas where required.
