The Lions Eye Institute (LEI), established in 1983 by Ophthalmologist Professor Ian Constable AO, is a leading eye research institute in the Asia-Pacific region. We attract the brightest minds with a unique business model of clinicians and researchers working side by side in improving disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

In partnership with the University of Western Australia (UWA), we are seeking to appoint an outstanding academic to the newly created Ian Constable Chair in Discovery and Translational Ophthalmic Science. This position will be a landmark development for the Institute that will be responsible for enhancing our work in the field of coupling between retinal neurons, glia and blood supply in health and disease, and will make a significant contribution to the development of Western Australia’s reputation as a premier medical research hub through the creation of an exceptional vision neuroscience group.

The ideal candidate will be a recognised authority in the field, bringing an outstanding international reputation for laboratory and analytical research, evidenced by a strong track record of peer reviewed publications and success in attracting competitive research funding. They will contribute to academic leadership and excellence in ophthalmology in the state and nationally, and lead a team of outstanding young scientists and clinicians working on cutting edge research and its translation into practice.
