The School of General Education (SGE) invites applications for a Laboratory Instructor in Chemistry starting in August 2021.

Your commitment:

Reporting to the Chair of Math/Science - SGE, the Laboratory Instructor will oversee the Laboratory classes associated with the range of Physics courses offered by the school. Laboratory Instructors will be required to set up the Lab, chemical preparation, maintain the equipment, work directly with students to demonstrate the laboratory experiments, guide students to conduct their individual experiments, monitor for health and safety compliance, collect and grade the Lab Reports submitted by the students, and liaise with the relevant Faculty Member teaching the course. Laboratory Instructors are expected to conduct 18-20 hours/week in direct Laboratory instruction.

Laboratory Instructors are expected to be committed to development/innovation and professional development, and to attend technical seminars and workshops. If applicable, they may be invited to contribute to program improvement, including curriculum development, accreditation, quality assurance reviews, and school/College activities and events.

Qualifications:

  • At least Bachelor’s Degree or Trade Designation in the relevant discipline
  • Master’s Degree Preferred
  • Professional Certification in the discipline of instruction is an advantage

Preferred Experience:

  • Employment experience as a practitioner/professional within the discipline of Chemistry desirable.
  • Setting up and demonstrating labs
  • Maintaining, organizing current structure of instructional labs

Knowledge and Skills:

Strong written and spoken English. Ability to use computers and software to support classroom instruction (PeopleSoft, curriculum specific software, mobile devices, Interactive Whiteboards), e-mail, and Word processing. Experience using Desire2Learn (D2L) or similar Learning Management System (LMS) would be an advantage.
