In 2020, the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) in partnership with Wuxi Taihu University (WTU) established a joint institute, “The Scotland Academy” at WTU in Wuxi, China. We are seeking to appoint an experienced, talented and motivated individual who will provide leadership and programme management at The Scotland Academy. All programmes are taught in English.

UWS’ School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences has a reputation in student-centred learning and a global reputation in research and knowledge transfer activities. It is the winner of the Times Higher Education’s Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year, 2020. The School continues to develop important partnerships supported by significant investment in academic posts in-line with its strategic development and to help further the position of the School as a key player nationally and internationally.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to carry out teaching, research/knowledge exchange and external engagement activities. You will be the main UWS representative in Wuxi, China.  The post holder will have a leadership co-ordinating role in respect of the programmes and module delivery.

You should have a PhD in computing or a related area. We would particularly welcome applicants with expertise in the following areas: cybersecurity, computer networks and, mobile and web technologies.  You will have higher education experience in teaching and management and, will be able to manage the delivery of the programmes in partnership with WTU as well as other scholarly activities. You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality teaching and supporting an outstanding student experience. You should have experience in overseeing the setup of practical computing laboratories. Experience in line management is preferred.

A relocation, healthcare and accommodation package will be offered to the successful candidate. The candidate should be eligible for a Chinese visa and be available to start in August 2021.
