Under supervision, the Research Assistant will oversee mouse colony, conduct independent research including performing a variety of highly specialized laboratory procedures in animal work, molecular and cell biology under direction from PI. Procedures include generating DNA constructs, gene expression studies, Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, SDS-PAGE, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, tissue collection, tissue sectioning, and performance of PCR genotyping on animal and human samples. Will create and maintain cultures and cell lines using cell culture techniques as well as perform DNA and RNA extraction from biological samples.
Work at the laboratory focuses on understanding the pathogenic mechanisms underlying adult-onset neurodegenerative diseases by constructing in vitro and in vivo models followed by a multidisciplinary approach combining genomic quantitative analysis, molecular and cellular studies with the goal of understanding disease pathogenic mechanisms and harnessing anti-aging potential to understand and combat adult-onset neurodegenerative diseases.
- Degree holder in any biological sciences or science disciplines;
- Prior laboratory experience in one of the following areas is preferred: mouse models, cell culture, or molecular biology is preferred;
- Able to work responsibly and independently with precision and possess good organizational skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
