Salary Range:
$86,821 - $96,107 pa

Reporting to:
Laboratory Manager

Under broad direction the Sleep Health Laboratory Deputy Manager / Clinical Trials Coordinator, will provide broad leadership and management of the operations within the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health (AISH)/ Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) Sleep Health.

AISH/FHMRI Sleep Health is a multi-disciplinary team of qualified and experienced health and research professionals which provide world-class clinical research in a range of sleep disorders. This position will work closely with Academic staff and provide support that links Sleep Health research and operational delivery of strategy.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Sleep Health Laboratory Deputy Manager/Clinical Trials Coordinator is accountable for:

  • Assisting the management and coordination of the AISH/FHMRI Sleep Health Sleep Laboratories including sleep facilities, equipment, databases and staff (including casual staff rosters and scheduling).
  • Working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to deliver an exceptional level of service.
  • Providing input into the development and coordination of research activities within AISH/FHMRI Sleep Health including facilitating participant recruitment.
  • Coordinating and ensuring the smooth operation of the AISH/FHMRI Sleep Health Clinical Trials in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
  • Providing significant support in managing the financial performance of AISH/FHMRI Sleep Health, including preparation of annual budgets.
  • Preparing well developed written and verbal documentation/reports to meet the needs of key stakeholders including assistance with research ethics proposals and reports.
  • Providing strategic advice and recommendations to key stakeholders on AISH/FHMRI Sleep Health activities.
  • Willingness to work outside normal work hours.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor, Director of AISH/FHMRI Sleep Health and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of a degree in a relevant field of science or a combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Broad experience in coordinating clinical trials and contribute to high quality data collection for research including:
    • operating advanced laboratory equipment safely and effectively,
    • calibrating and maintaining equipment
    • performing participant set ups for overnight sleep experiments,
    • recruiting and scheduling participants and staff rosters
  • Experience in managing a Sleep Laboratory Facility or similar research facility.
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly motivated and possess significant organisation skills with the ability of priority setting, working independently, and working to deadlines as part of a research team.
  • Experience in reconciling and maintaining financial records and accounts and advising staff regarding management of accounts.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams to provide consistent and effective services.
  • Demonstrated ability for high level strategy thinking, planning and analytical skills with the provision of services.
  • Well developed interpersonal and problem solving skills, including the ability to liaise collaboratively and effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Well developed written communication skills including a proven ability to write clear and concise.
  • Proven interest in respiratory and sleep disorders/human physiology.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing Ethics applications and ensuring compliance of research with human ethics and other regulatory requirements.
