De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester is seeking to recruit a creative and experienced lecturer to the Design Cultures team in the School of Fashion and Textiles.

The department

The Faculty of Art Design and Humanities (ADH) is home to many of DMU's creative disciplines and humanities subjects and is one of the UK's leading Higher Education providers of creative disciplines.

 

The role

With an ethos of responsible design, an emphasis on Decolonisation and a focus on employability, the School brings together Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Buying, Fashion Management, Fashion Communication along with niche disciplines of Contour Fashion and Footwear Design. Housed in a dedicated Arts & Design building the School incorporates undergraduate and postgraduate study with excellence in teaching, research and design consultancy with a commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

 

The person

The ideal candidate will have experience of teaching contextual studies or historical/theoretical aspects of fashion/textile/design at university level and will be have a strong interest in design for sustainability. The appointed person will join an existing team of specialists and teach across a range of design disciplines at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Experience in developing new methods of delivery and assessment that inspire practice-based students would be an advantage. Research is an important part of this role and a strong desire to contribute actively to research activities is essential. A PhD in a relevant subject area would be desirable.
