Who are we?

Future Worlds is the on-campus startup accelerator at the University of Southampton. We exist to help aspiring student and staff entrepreneurs change the world with their ideas, because we believe that if you want to make a difference, then launching a startup is one of the best ways you can make an impact in the world, and the University is one of the best places to start.

Since 2015, we’ve supported hundreds of aspiring startup founders, leading to the launch of startups in locations from Silicon Valley to Tanzania backed by millions of pounds of investment. We help people from across the University and at every academic stage from first year undergraduates to professors.

Future Worlds hosts startup talks, skills workshops and investor pitching opportunities and accelerates new ventures through one to one support, its network of seasoned founders and multi-millionaire investors, and every year promotes University of Southampton startups and spinouts on the world stage at  CES in Las Vegas, the biggest and most influential tech show in the world where an audience of over 170,000 people gather to see the latest ground-breaking technology revealed.

We’re passionate about creating an inclusive startup community on campus, which is enriched by the diversity of its members and dispels misplaced stereotypes of ‘typical’ startup founders. We’re proud to be ‘founder first’ in our approach, and don’t charge or take equity from the startups we support.

Who are you and what will you be doing?

You’re an experienced events professional and a confident communicator who can deliver polished events in-person and online. You enjoy delivering events with flair and take pride in putting your name to innovative ideas.

You’ll take ownership of the oversight, creation and delivery of Future Worlds’ showcase events until March 2022. The culmination of this is our presence at CES 2022, the world’s biggest and most influential tech show, taking place in Las Vegas in January 2022.

You’ll be liaising with internal contacts and external suppliers to deliver showcase events that raise the profile of Future Worlds, and most importantly the startup founders we support. You understand how expo events work and how to make the very best impact possible at them, and you're able to create compelling marketing messages that drive engagement with your events.

You know how to maximise allocated budgets for the best return, are adaptable to change and willing to work in a lean team to achieve an outsize impact.

Above all, you’re willing to learn fast, ask questions and embody the founder-first, inclusive culture we work hard to cultivate at Future Worlds.

For an informal conversation about this role, you're welcome to contact Grace Burton, Tech Acceleration Manager (Future Worlds) at g.burton@soton.ac.uk
