About the opportunity

The Health Economics Research Fellow will work within the Menzies Centre for Health Policy and Economics in the School of Public Health at the University of Sydney. The Centre has multiple research themes and you would apply your expertise in health economics across a range of projects and health program evaluations within these themes.

The role is positioned to provide input into the design of clinical trials and program evaluations, undertake different types of economic evaluation, and apply principles of implementation science to translate research outcomes to policy and practice. There is scope to extend the role into areas which are fields of expertise of the incumbent.

You will be able to analyse clinical trial and patient data using specialist statistical and economic modelling software, and will have a track record of preparing high quality written reports, peer-reviewed journal articles and research grant applications.

There will be the opportunity for you to engage with government and non-government organisations in relation to research and thought leadership, and to contribute to national capacity building in health economics.

About you

  • a PhD degree (or equivalent) in a quantitative discipline such as health economics, biostatistics, economics, epidemiology, pharmacy, engineering or a similar field
  • demonstrated health economic modelling skills using TreeAGE and Excel
  • familiarity with undertaking statistical analyses of large databases of health-related data, including linked administrative data (e.g. Medicare, hospital datasets)
  • a proven ability to design and undertake quantitative data collection and analysis
  • excellent analytic, written, and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • a demonstrated record of leadership and substantial contribution to peer reviewed publications in high quality journals
  • a demonstrated ability to participate in the preparation of grant applications and reports.
