Staff are working remotely in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and it is likely that the successful candidate will also be required to do so, initially. When the Wessex Institute returns to its physical workplace, some remote and flexible working will be considered, depending on team roles, locations and logistics.

About the role

We are looking for high calibre candidates with a passion for applied health research to fill vacancies in our research management functions. Details of all the areas of work are included in the functional and additional work areas below. Applicants are encouraged to highlight their preferred area of work.  Successful candidates will be offered positions based on best fit of their skills, to meet business needs.

You should have a background in health research management and/or experience of working in an NHS, social care, public health or low-resource global health setting or for a patient-centred organisation/charity, alongside a genuine desire to make a difference to patients and the public.

As a Research Manager you will manage a portfolio of work to support our research programmes and other research management activity/support working with clinicians, researchers and patients.  You will build and maintain positive and professional working relationships at all levels, both internally and externally, including with members of the public and patients, requiring excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will prioritise your workload and lead on improvements to working practices. You must be able to understand, rationalise and communicate complex problems/issues, taking or recommending appropriate action. You should have excellent writing, analytical and critical appraisal skills and be able to understand and interpret complex medical and scientific literature. The successful applicants must have skill level equivalent to achievement of HND, Degree, NVQ4 or basic professional qualification.

The posts are based in Southampton, although occasional travel to other locations across the UK may be required and will be fully reimbursed.
