Job Details

With over 50 years of academic excellence and having been recently named the UK's University of the Year for Social Inclusion 2020 by The Times and Sunday Times, the University of Bradford has continued to grow its international reputation and innovative course provision. With almost 10,000 students, the University is pioneering in developing and delivering high quality programmes across a wide range of subjects, reflecting and anticipating the needs of employers, students, and of society as a whole.

The Division of Peace Studies and International Development (PSID) situated within the School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences has been one of the oldest centres of development studies and the world's first University department dedicated to Peace Studies. These two specialisms have been well recognised centres of undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education, research and knowledge transfer. The Division has an extensive global network of alumni and staff members have been creating impact through their research internationally and nationally.  The Division is home to the Rotary Peace Centre due to celebrate its 20th anniversary next year. The division's reputation in the field of development projects dates back to 1969 as a centre of excellence in project planning and appraisal. The Division presently has over 180 students, most of them international, on its 8 postgraduate programmes. Of these, there has been particularly notable growth spurt in the demand for MSc in Project Planning and Management.

To sustain and build on this success, the Division is currently looking to appoint an Associate Professor in Project Planning and Management to lead and contribute to teaching, research and knowledge transfer in this field with a clear international focus.

The ideal candidate for the Associate Professor post must possess a Doctorate in a relevant field and will be expected to have a research track record at 3* or 4* journal level and continue to be research active with grant capture activity and ambition. Because of the applied nature of this field we are open to candidate who may not have a PhD but have considerable real world project management and delivery experience and PMI or other relevant professional body recognition to be appointed as Programme Leader. Such a candidate is expected to have excellent track record in KT or other forms of grant income equivalent to research grant capture.

The candidate will be expected to lead and contribute to the development and delivery of the MSc in Project Planning and Management, lead the accreditation of this programme towards relevant professional bodies and prepare students for excellent employability. The candidate is expected to have programme leadership experience. Ideally, the candidate must have technical skillsets such as advanced proficiency in all areas of Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), and have prior knowledge of using relevant software packages such as Microsoft Project and Excel. The post holder will be expected to contribute to digital learning teaching, working closely with established partners and contributing towards the Division's excellent track record of winning and delivering KT projects and executive education. The successful candidate will also need to evidence excellent networking, business and community engagement activities with local and international business/organisations.

This role will be offered at Grade 10 in accordance with the University of Bradford's academic journey stage markers.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor PB Anand, Head of PSID  p.b.anand@bradford.ac.uk OR Professor Peter Mitchell, Head of School of Social Sciences p.mitchell1@bradford.ac.uk.
