About the position

The Department of Psychology has a vacant permanent full-time position as associate professor in developmental psychology. The option to apply for promotion to a full professor post is available.

The Department of Psychology has a large and varied professional environment with broad competence within psychology. We offer a clinical program in psychology (program of professional study) and degree courses at bachelor, master and PhD level. The department is involved in extensive research collaboration, both internally and with other research environments nationally and internationally.

As an associate professor at the Department of Psychology, you will be part of an active research environment with the goal of further developing the field of study. You have good collaboration skills and aim to create a good performance environment within the field of study. You are involved in lesson planning and ensure that quality is upheld when teaching bachelor’s and master’s degree courses, and the clinical program in psychology. At the same time, you are available for the students and provide academic guidance throughout the study programs. It is expected that you participate in the administrative tasks related to program coordination, courses, examination work, meetings and committee work.

You will report to the Head of department. 

Duties of the position

  • Initiate and strengthen research and research dissemination within developmental psychology
  • Be a driving force to develop and further advance research projects and applications for research funding
  • Teach the subject of developmental psychology and related areas of instruction in the programs and courses the department offers
  • Give academic guidance to students taking a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in the field of study 
  • Participate in planning and execution of educational activities according to program descriptions, and evaluation and further development of educational activities and relevant study programs, including continuing and post qualifying education
  • It is expected that you take on an elected or honorary appointment for a period
  • Examination work
  • Administrative duties

Qualification requirements

You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and academic guidance at university or university college level. See the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts. If you are unable to document this, you must complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years after appointment. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) offers qualifying courses.

If you do not command a Scandinavian language, you must within three years demonstrate knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to Norwegian for Foreigners, Level 3, offered by the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

  • Strong background in the discipline of psychology
  • Experience in teaching and academic guidance from universities

  • Competency in contextual approaches to development
  • Competency in applied developmental psychology
  • Previous teaching experience within the relevant field of study is an advantage
  • Experience with student-active teaching strategies and digital teaching

Salary and conditions

In a position as associate professor (code 1011) you will normally be remunerated from gross NOK 586 500,- to NOK 658 300,- per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment, you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

If it is difficult to identify your contribution to joint works, you must attach a brief description of your participation.

We also consider experience from research management and participation in research projects. We place great emphasis on your scientific work from the last five years.

When assessing the best qualified applicant, emphasis will be placed on personal suitability, your motivation for the post, your ability to teach and pedagogical qualifications. Our assessment will be founded on documented teaching material, presentation methods in the scientific works, teaching experience, academic guidance at PhD and master’s degree level, and other teaching experience. Quality and breadth will be assessed.
