ANNOUNCEMENT OF ACADEMIC POSITION

DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Cyprus started accepting undergraduate and postgraduate students in September 2003. It provides high-quality programs both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The scientific research carried out in the Department takes place in an environment that promotes collaboration between academic staff, students, and other industry and research stakeholders, both locally and internationally. Through this short but creative course of development, the Department has gained international recognition and is today amongst the 301-400 best Electrical and Electronic Engineering Departments (2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)) in the world. The Department is expected to move to its new facilities within the new School of Engineering building by the end of 2022. These facilities will include teaching and research laboratories as well as teaching facilities of the highest caliber.

The University of Cyprus invites applications for one (1) tenured-track academic position, in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor in one of the following areas:

  • Future Power Systems

Sub-areas can include – but not limited to – the following:

  • Optimization, analysis, and control of modern/future power systems.
  • Power transmission and distribution grid operation in modern/future power systems.
  • Advanced signal and data analysis in modern/future power systems.
  • Operating principles of modern power systems, design standards and regulatory policies in the electricity supply industry of the future.

For all academic ranks, an earned Doctorate in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or related fields from a recognized University is required. All candidates should also be able to teach a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Engineering offered in the department.

Requirements for appointment depend on academic rank and include: prior academic experience, research record and scientific contributions, involvement in teaching and in the development of high quality undergraduate and graduate curricula. The official languages of the University are Greek and Turkish. For the above position, knowledge of Greek is necessary. In case the selected candidate does not have sufficient knowledge of the Greek language, it is the candidate's and the Department's responsibility to ensure that the candidate acquires sufficient knowledge of the Greek language within 3 years of appointment. Each Department sets its own criteria for the required level of adequacy of knowledge of the Greek language.

Citizenship of the Republic of Cyprus is not a requirement.

The annual gross salary (including the 13th salary) for full time employment, according to the current legislation, is

Assistant Professor (Scale Α13-Α14) €58,428.91-€78,798.6

Lecturer (Scale Α12-Α13)  €44,410.28-€72,265.43

Selected candidates will be required to submit copies of degree certificates officially certified by the Ministry of Education (for certificates received from Universities in Cyprus) or from the Issuing Authority (for foreign Universities).
