At TU Dresden, Faculty of Psychology, Institute of General Psychology, Biopsychology and Methods of Psychology, the Chair of General Psychology offers a project position starting as soon as possible in the DFG third-party funded project "The Influence of Inhibition Strength on Self-Control: When, When Not and How?”

Research Associate

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

limited for 2 years with 65 % of the regular weekly working hours. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG).

The DFG project aims at investigating an emerging conceptual analysis of behavioral restraint. Through a focus on restraint intensity-related cardiovascular responses, this analysis aims to reimagine fatigue’s influence on restraint performance as multi-faceted instead of the traditional view of fatigue having a direct effect on restraint performance. The project will examine the effects that perception of fatigue, external incentives and training have on the relationship between fatigue and restraint intensity-related cardiovascular response. The aim of the project is to replicate and extend the initial support found for the conceptual analysis.

Tasks: Participant recruitment; methodology formation; theory building; data acquisition; data analysis, and manuscript creation.

Requirements: university degree (diploma or master) in psychology, clinical psychology or cognitive neuroscience; a strong interest in effort-related cardiovascular response and psychophysiology research methods; background and prior research experience utilizing Motivational Intensity Theory; fluent English.

TU Dresden provides an excellent scientific environment. The primary investigator has access to the Neuroimaging Centre (equipped with fMRI, EEG, TMS, eye tracking facilities), Cardiovascular recording equipment (capable of measuring PEP, HRV, BP and HR), and to the TU Dresden high-performance computing clusters.
