$86,821 - $96,107 pa

Office of Communication, Marketing and Engagement

Working under broad direction, the Research Marketing Lead will play a key role in the delivery of online and offline marketing and communications to support Flinders research. Responsibilities include leading and producing marketing initiatives for research events, campaigns, website, video production and publications.

The role will act as a point of contact for the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research),Research Development and Support (RDS) and Office of Graduate Research (OGR) marketing requirements, and will work closely with Central and College marketing teams to ensure that Research portfolio and University marketing, communications and engagement priorities deliver measurable results that contribute to The 2025 agenda.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Research Marketing Lead is accountable for:

  • Developing and delivering a research marketing plan, which showcases research activity from Research Institute’s and Centre’s and other areas of institutional research strength to position the University’s research strengths and capability, in order to:
    • enhance the reputation of Flinders research and impact with key audiences
    • build the University’s international research partnership and engagement profile
    • attract HDR students in line with University student recruitment objectives
    • profile key research areas in line with research initiatives and funding opportunities.
  • Coordinating OCME paid research marketing campaigns, including briefing media, creatives and collaborating with RDS, OGR and Colleges to identify campaign content.
  • Working with the Senior Marketing Manager – Future Students, support the HDR marketing recruitment plan and associated central campaigns.
  • Collaborating with RDS, OGR and Colleges to identify key researchers to profile in the Brave Minds publication and Brave events series, and support the events team as required.
  • Working with the website team and College marketing and content roles, develop Flinders research website, ensuring the public facing web pages are dynamic, support upcoming priorities, up to date, accurate and consistent with University brand guidelines and policies.
  • Liaising with subject matter experts to produce / source dynamic, engaging multimedia content including photography, film, animation and other digital assets for repurposing across print and digital channels.
  • Writing, developing and publishing material for a wide range of purposes that is consistent with University brand guidelines and policies, including website copy, newsletters, speeches, HDR recruitment and research publications (anything from a two-word social media post to a four hundred word website article).
  • Support the marketing of Flinders research events and initiatives, including Institute/Centre launches and external engagement activities.
  • Leveraging College and Portfolio resources in the delivery of research marketing initiatives as well as drawing on the University’s panel of creative suppliers.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of degree in communications, media studies, marketing or a related discipline with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and / or education and / or training.
  • Successful experience in writing, editing and proof-reading content for online and offline channels tailored to a range of audiences.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills including accuracy and attention to detail and experience in writing, editing and proof-reading quality written content.
  • Extensive experience in, and detailed knowledge of, contemporary and best practice multimedia and marketing campaigns.
  • Ability to use CMS and CRM products to support marketing and communications objectives, for example creating web pages, social media posts and disseminating campaign monitor emails.
  • Proven high-level interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively in a team context and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in using competitive analysis, online analytics, horizon scanning and market research to inform decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as working collaboratively as part of a team, exercise initiative, judgement and well developed problem solving skills, and interpret and apply relevant policies and procedures.
  • Sound problem solving capabilities, and the ability to determine and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to develop and deliver marketing activities and report on potential improvements for the future.
  • Experience in the Higher Education Sector (desirable).
