The Department of Sociology and Social Policy brings together scholars with international research experience and publication record in major outlets in the area of Sociology and Social Policy. The Department is a recipient of the University’s Research Excellence Award and Teaching Excellence Awards. We offer teaching in Sociology and in Social Policy; and co-host the Health and Social Services Management stream with the Asia Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies. The Department hosts an MSocSc Programme in Comparative Social Policy (International) (IMCSP) and has been successful in attracting MPhil and PhD students from around the world as well as Hong Kong PhD Fellows and winning other external competitive grants. General Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD degree in Sociology, Social Policy, or other related disciplines with relevant teaching and research experience. All applicants are required to provide information on their research portfolio and publication record as well as evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication and presentation skills in English are essential. Experience with conducting state-of-the-art quantitative or comparative social research will be a distinct advantage. The appointee should be able to take up teaching duties in some of the following courses on the MSocSc Programme in Comparative Social Policy (International): “Policy Research and Evaluation Design”, “Comparative Social Policy in Greater China and East Asia”, and “Comparative Social Indicators and Research Methods”. Besides these teaching duties, applicants should be prepared to actively support research endeavours of Departmental faculty, MPhil and PhD students broadly in the area of comparative social policy analysis. The appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to academic excellence and should engage in their own quality research and journal publications.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. Appointment will normally be made on a fixed-term contract of up to three years.
