Job Details

Following a decade of collaboration encompassing student exchanges, dual degree programmes and articulated degree programmes, UCD and Chang'an University (CHD), located in the city of Xi'an in China, received Chinese Ministry of Education approval, in April 2020, to establish a joint international college delivering dual degrees. Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Deputy Provost CDIC within UCD Chang'an-Dublin International College for Transportation at Chang'an University (CDIC) and either one of the UCD School of Architecture Planning & Environmental Policy, the UCD School of Civil Engineering, or the UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering.

The Deputy Provost CDIC role is a key UCD role for programme delivery (including delivery of up to three modules), educational strategy, quality assurance and academic administration for the joint venture with CHD. The Deputy Provost CDIC will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day delivery and quality of academic programmes and will be accountable to the Provost for academic matters pertaining to all aspects of UCD degrees.

Given the nature of the role the post holder will spend up to 180 days in Xi'an including one Teaching Semester to facilitate their own teaching contribution to one or more of the programmes.

The Deputy Provost will also belong to one of the UCD constituent Schools of CDIC - UCD School of Architecture, Planning & Environmental Policy, UCD School of Civil Engineering or UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering - through which they will manage their research and teaching activities. While the reporting line for this individual will be to the CDIC Provost, they will also be responsible to their Head of School (or nominee) for research and teaching responsibilities. In addition to their own teaching and managing CDIC affairs, in collaboration with other UCD and CHD colleagues, the successful applicant will be expected to engage in scholarly research (funding for a PhD student will be provided) leading to peer reviewed publications and other academic outputs.
