The Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences is seeking a Lecturer in Veterinary Biosciences to join the Melbourne Veterinary School for a fixed term opportunity for up to 9 months.

About the role

The Lecturer in Veterinary Biosciences will provide excellence in teaching principally in the areas of veterinary reproduction and veterinary biosciences including anatomy. The incumbent will draw upon their clinical and basic scientific knowledge to develop and deliver lectures, workshops and practical classes to undergraduate and graduate students in the DVM program, particularly in the areas of reproductive physiology, veterinary biosciences and anatomy related to the domestic animals.

The Lecturer (Veterinary Biosciences) will also be responsible for actively participating in the mentoring and wellbeing of DVM students. The school runs a staff-student mentor scheme which helps to keep students engaged and to flag any personal problems that may occur, so that students can be referred for appropriate help and advice.

The position will be located at the Parkville campus of the University of Melbourne but will be expected to teach and to attend meetings, seminars and conferences  at other campuses or facilities from time to time.

About you

Essential

  • An awarded veterinary degree registrable in Victoria with relevant experience in a similar position.
  • A post-graduate research degree awarded in a relevant discipline, or demonstrably close to completion.
  • Demonstrated strong record of teaching experience in a tertiary environment in a range of teaching delivery modes including online, classroom and blended.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum and subject material development;
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering quality and innovative teaching and learning, and to supervise undergraduate, graduate diploma and honors students within the discipline.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as a member of a team to deliver high-quality teaching and/or scholarly outcomes.
  • Demonstrated high-level organisational skills and record keeping capabilities as well as demonstrated ability to prioritise a range of tasks, manage time effectively and meeting deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and an ability to tailor information to different audiences in a diverse environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively and professionally with academic and professional staff colleagues as well as external stakeholders at all levels and with people from diverse backgrounds.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated capacity to attract or assist in attracting external funding to support teaching and/or scholarly activities.
  • Evidence of capacity to develop innovative approaches to teaching in veterinary science.
  • Developed cross-cultural sensitivity in teaching and learning.
