Salary Range:
$71,596 - $79,016 pa

Reporting to:
Research Lead, Rural and Remote Health

The Research Assistant will provide support to the research academic staff in the Discipline of Rural and Remote Health SA, primarily in the Riverland region of SA.

Support will be required for current and future projects that address and meet the research outcomes and projects identified in the Rural and Remote Health SA Research Plan. At times other specific projects may be identified.

The Research Assistant will be responsible for coordinating research activities, including but not limited to, support ethics application, data collection, analyses and work closely with the stakeholders in project implementation and evaluation.

The incumbent will determine their own priorities and operate within the framework of established policies and work systems. Specific outcomes will be reviewed. There are no supervisory responsibilities required for this position.

The incumbent will be required to reside in the Riverland region of South Australia, within commuting distance to the Campus in Renmark.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Research Assistant is accountable for:

  • Undertaking administrative tasks for relevant research projects.
  • Assisting the research team in the development and implementation of the Rural and Remote Health research plan, drafting report information as required and assisting in the design and implementation of rural based research projects.
  • Contributing to the preparation of grants and ethics proposals in collaboration with research staff.
  • Collecting and collating information from a variety of sources to assist with project planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting.
  • Supporting data-analyses using Excel and other statistical software such as NVivo and SPSS.
  • Liaising and consulting with a range of individual and community organisations, internal and external stakeholders and other Rural and Remote Health staff, including the University Research Service Office.
  • Managing and updating research databases including those related to research output such as the research portals.
  • Some out of hours work as well as intra and interstate travel from time to time.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor, senior researchers and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree or qualification or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.
  • Proven ability to work well as part of a diverse and committed team.
  • Well-developed administrative and organisational skills including the ability to manage conflicting priorities, make independent and informed judgements on a range of research related matters and manage time in order to meet deadlines.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to liaise with a wide range of community and health professionals.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce ethics proposals and publications.
  • Demonstrated data analysis skills including the ability to use analysis software and databases.
  • Computer literacy including well-developed or demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word, Excel and Outlook, with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies and applications.
  • Experience of working in a University environment (desirable).
