Company

Griffith University is one of Australia’s most innovative tertiary institutions and an influential contributor to education and research in the Asia–Pacific region. A relatively young university, Griffith has pioneered new directions and grown from a single-campus university to a large, multi-campus institution with more than 50,000 students, six campuses in South East Queensland including a Digital campus, and a network of over 200,000 graduates. Today, Griffith is known for its high-impact research, outstanding student experience, commitment to social justice and welcoming environment, and ranks among the top two percent of universities worldwide.

RESEARCH FOR A BETTER FUTURE

Conducting impactful, socially relevant research is central to Griffith’s values and success, with more than 30 research centres and institutes hosted at its campuses.

Behind Griffith’s frequently groundbreaking output are researchers working out of internationally recognised units such as the Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery (GRIDD), the Australian Rivers Institute (ARI), the Cities Research Institute (CRI), the Griffith Asia Institute (GAI) and the Menzies Health Institute Queensland (MHIQ), among others.

Griffith works across disciplines, in partnerships and across countries to bring together the right teams to answer the big questions of today and tomorrow. Areas of strategic focus for research include:

  • Climate change adaptation
  • Water science, criminology
  • Health and chronic diseases
  • Drug discovery
  • Quantum physics
  • Music
  • Nursing
  • Sustainable tourism
  • Environment

LEARNING AND TEACHING INNOVATION

Home to four Australian University Teachers of the Year, Griffith has long been nationally renowned as an incubator of educational innovation and excellence. The University introduced Australia’s first degrees in environmental studies and Asian studies, and continues to rethink and reshape the way it engages students to help them develop the skills they need to succeed well after they graduate.

Griffith offers more than 200 degrees across a range of disciplines, including:

  • Architecture, construction and planning
  • Business and government
  • Criminology and law
  • Education
  • Engineering, IT and aviation
  • Humanities, languages and social science
  • Medicine, dentistry and health
  • Music and performing arts
  • Science and environment
  • Visual and creative arts

Griffith’s range of degrees are fundamentally informed by industry, providing students the resources and opportunities to be exposed to the kinds of experiences they are likely to encounter in their work life. Several of the University’s degrees offer students the chance to take up work placements, internships, field trips and other work-integrated learning opportunities as part of their education, helping them to develop and apply the knowledge they gain in the classroom in practical settings relevant to their career.

These experiences are made possible by Griffith’s extensive ties to industry and the community, with a range of partnerships and collaborations helping students make valuable connections in their field, work on research projects and gain important insight to the everyday realities of their professional journey.

LIFE ON CAMPUS

Griffith recognises that learning should be a welcoming, exceptional experience for its students, and each of its locations strives to encourage a vibrant, diverse and thriving community, from cafes and retail outlets to social events and competitions, student clubs and societies, and more.

The University has about 120 clubs and societies, reflecting the broad spectrum of passions and interests shared among its students.

Griffith’s campuses boast a range of sporting and fitness facilities—including a world-class multisport complex at Nathan and the Gold Coast’s national-standard athletics track and aquatic centre—for the benefit of University students, staff and the local community.
