The Department of English Studies at the University of Cyprus invites applications for one (1) Special Scientist position (Teaching) in English Literature for the Fall Semester 2021–2022 pending final approval and funding by the University authorities.

TEACHING REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will be required to teach the following courses:

Fall Semester 2021-2022:

  • ENG 120: Introduction to the Study of Poetry
  • ENG 5XX: Elective in Anglophone Literature and Cultural Studies

She or he will also administer and mark the final exam for the courses she or he will teach. Renewal of the Special Scientist’s contract for one more semester may be possible, in which case she or he will be required to teach one of the following courses:

Spring Semester 2021-2022:

  • ENG 220-229: Topics in Poetry: Studies in Romantic and Victorian Poetry
  • ENG 220-229: Topics in Poetry: Major Themes and Voices in Twentieth Century Poetry

EMPLOYMENT TERMS

Special Scientist remuneration is 63 euro per teaching hour and paid employment is for 15 weeks. Teaching duties begin on 6 September 2021, ending on 18 December 2021. Payment is made as follows: €63 per hour x teaching hours x 15 weeks for the Fall Semester 2021–2022.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants should hold a PhD on a relevant subject.

  3. Copies of degrees and transcripts (the successful candidate(s) will be asked to submit certified copies from the Ministry of Education of Cyprus, if degrees were acquired in Cyprus, or from the respective institution abroad)
  4.  Sample course syllabus or syllabi in the areas advertised

If applying for the first time to the Department, applicants must also arrange for two academic referees to send letters of recommendation directly to it (see below). The names and addresses of these referees must be submitted with the application.

In case an applicant is employed in the public or wider public sector of the Republic of Cyprus, they must obtain in advance permission to work at the University from the appropriate Department/Ministry, or wider public sector authority.
