Associate Professor in Informatics - Permanent - Full Time 

Who we are 

It's an exciting time to join us! We are an ambitious university, operating at the leading edge of our academic disciplines in research, pedagogy and professional practice. 

Our School of Computing is home to 70 academics, 1400 students and holds professional accreditation from the British Computer Society, with some of the most impressive computing lab?facilities in the UK.  

The role  

This new vacancy has been created to support the expansion of our undergraduate and postgraduate teaching portfolio to meet the increasing demand for skilled graduates and postgraduates within the area of Informatics. The successful candidate will have a leadership role in the development of interdisciplinary collaborations in both research and curriculum development across the university in areas such as CyberSecurity, Financial Services, Health, Information Governance, User Experience etc

Our ideal candidate must demonstrate enthusiasm for working with industry and leadership skills in applied research and in the development of teaching to enhance the employability of our graduates. You will develop strong links to industry, with an aim to developing your own interests and influence in related emerging areas.  A focus for all our academic staff is to maximise networks, build relationships with industry and other external organisations to deliver income growth, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and internationalise our work.  You will be expected to develop and deliver face to face, blended, and online teaching for both on-campus and off-campus delivery within the UK and overseas. 

In this role, you will be expected to contribute to research as a member of one of our research centres. A developing track record in research publications, income generation and research grants is essential. You will initially have up to 30% of your time dedicated to building research capability and generating new research income, and you will be encouraged to engage and collaborate in interdisciplinary research with colleagues in other areas within the School and externally.

We offer a range of development opportunities including our Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) office who support grant funding applications. Lastly, you will be mentored by a Professor and we aim to have you quickly join a PhD student supervisory team.

Who we are looking for  

  • Evidence of a professional academic profile and/or industry expertise alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in one or more of the areas mentioned above to influence and lead the development of high quality teaching/learning and/or research programmes.
  • Demonstrable evidence of a teaching specialisation. 
  • Commitment to deliver and provide leadership of face to face, blended, and online teaching for both on-campus and off-campus delivery in UK and overseas.
  • Strong influencing, leadership and people management skills.

Salary: Grade 7 

GBP 51,034 - GBP 59,135 per annum
