Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant Professor (RAP)/ Research Officer (RO)/Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) (several posts) in the Division of Public Health Laboratory Sciences (PHLS) of the School of Public Health (Ref.: 503673), to commence as soon as possible, on a one-year temporary basis or two-year fixed-term basis for RAP and RO, or on a one-to two- year temporary basis for PDF.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree, with post-doctoral work experience in viral pathogens at biosafety level 2 (BSL-2). Experience in BSL-3 is an advantage. The appointees will participate in a well-funded research program of respiratory viral disease in WHO reference laboratories for H5N1 influenza and COVID-19. They will join a research team led by Professor Malik Peiris and Professor Leo Poon to study seasonal and pandemic influenza, MERS coronavirus and SARS-coronavirus-2 in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of virologists, epidemiologists and clinicians. They will also supervise junior research staff and postgraduate students, and write reports and papers. The appointees will be given an opportunity to develop their own research programme in viral diagnostics, epidemiology, pathogenesis, immunology or vaccinology. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment on fixed-terms will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. For RO, housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
