Position overview

The Centre for Advanced Microscopy (CAM) is looking for an enthusiastic Cryo Electron Microscopy Platform Scientist who will have extensive experience in the use of cryo transmission electron microscopy including single particle analysis, tomography and other aspects of cryo microscopy workflows. The Platform Scientist will provide scientific advice and training to users of the facility with particular focus on the newly established NCRIS-supported cryo EM suite, covering workflows from cryo light microscopy via FIB sampling to cryo TEM data capture, processing and analysis. Additional experience with cryo sample preparation and correlative workflows will be a distinct advantage.

CAM is the ANU’s microscopy, characterisation and analysis core facility and part of the national grid of Microscopy Australia facilities within the Advanced Imaging Precinct of the ANU (encompassing CAM and the Computed Tomography-lab). The Centre’s goal is to facilitate and provide research excellence through a focus on world-class facility capabilities matched with staff expertise relevant to a wide range of manufacturing, environmental and biological processes. It achieves this through consultation, training, teaching, data collection and their analysis to meet the characterisation requirements of local, national and international researchers and industry.

CAM comprises eight research professional and administrative staff supporting a diverse range of instrument platforms. The Centre currently houses world class facilities equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and techniques in basic and advanced light, electron and X-ray microscopy and analysis. The recently acquired instruments complement our existing correlative workflow and expand it into the cryo space with a cryo Linkham stage for our ZEISS LSM800/Airyscan confocal microscope, a ZEISS Crossbeam with Leica cryo stage and a cryo TEM (JEOL cryoARM200). This cryo suite enables characterisation from single particles (SPA), via cellular architecture of molecular machines to complex 3D volume imaging of small tissue samples (cryo tomography, cryo volume imaging).

Further information about CAM may be accessed on the ANU’s web site here.
