Job description
The Department of History seeks to appoint a Lecturer (Education) in Modern Latin American History, tenable for 12 months at 0.8 FTE from 1 September 2021, to provide cover for maternity leave.
 
The post-holder will specialize in Modern Latin American History (including Brazil and the Caribbean). Your main responsibility will be to teach the modules 5AAH3004 Forging State and Nation in Latin America since 1750 and 7AAH5018 Debates in Modern Latin American History. You will also teach on at least two of the following modules: 4AAH0001 Historical Skills, Sources and Approaches, 4AAH1008 World History 1870s-2000s, 6AAH4005 Nations, 6AAH4012 Authority. You will be expected to contribute to the administration and pastoral provision of the Department of History, though at a reduced level commensurate with part-time employment.
 
Applications are welcome from candidates with expertise in Modern Latin American History and the ability to teach the modules outlined above. Candidates should have submitted a PhD by the date of appointment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver team-taught and specialized teaching at all levels of UG curriculum
• Contribute to MA teaching and supervision
• Contribute to administrative and pastoral provision in the Department of History 
• Conduct research on Latin American History

Skills, knowledge and experience 

Essential criteria

1. PhD in Latin American History or Latin American Studies submitted or awarded
2. Excellent research expertise in Latin American History
3. Ability to convene, teach and assess modules relating to Modern Latin American history across the undergraduate curriculum
4. Ability to engage students and support their learning
5. Demonstrable administrative and interpersonal skills, a collaborative ethos, and capacity for team-working
6. Strong track record in research relative to career stage
7. Experience of teaching and supporting students at UG level
8. Ability to teach the modules listed in the role profile

Desirable criteria
1. Experience of teaching and supporting students at PG level
