About the Role

This is a vital and broad role across one of three active themes within the School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing. Its purpose is to support to the Director of Theme (DoT), Heads of Centre’s and other Thematic/School staff, ensuring the smooth and professional running of the Theme as a whole.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the day-to-day management of thematic administrative activity.

The key focus of administrative support is for the DoT, both internally and externally. Activities include preparing for meetings, conferences and events, organising logistics and diary requirements as well as providing assistance to academic, commercial and ad-hoc administrative functions. The role is the main point of contact for the Theme in regards to queries that do not fall within the control of the University PSU.

About You

The successful candidate will be an administrative ‘specialist’ requiring a high degree of organisational ability and the capability to plan well in advance. The role requires the post holder to be personable and a strong communicator who is able to react quickly when circumstances change and be an excellent problem solver. The day to day involves decision making, line management and high levels of communication as well as the agility to step in and assist in a variety of scenarios at sometimes very little notice. Administrative and management experience is essential, PA experience is desirable.

Our Values

Our shared, stated values help to define who we are and underpin everything we do: Ambition; Impact; Respect; and Community. Find out more here. We aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together and realise their full potential.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our equal opportunities and diversity monitoring has shown that women and minority ethnic groups are currently underrepresented within the university and so we actively encourage applications from eligible candidates from these groups.

To further demonstrate our commitment to progressing gender diversity in STEM, we are members of WES & Working Families, and sponsors of International Women in Engineering Day.

Flexible Working

We actively consider flexible working options such as part time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role. Find out more here.
