Edith Cowan University is seeking to appoint a new Executive Dean to the School of Arts & Humanities.

Edith Cowan University (ECU) is a young and progressive university with a strong reputation for excellence in teaching and engagement with its communities. Since its establishment in 1991, ECU has grown rapidly into a quality university with internationally recognised research and excellent student and staff satisfaction. ECU has maintained its position in the top 500 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2021. The World University Rankings is an annual list of more than 1000 of the top universities, ranked for their teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. This ranking places ECU in the top 2.5% of universities in the world.

The School of Arts and Humanities has been ranked as the top university in Western Australia in the Creative Arts discipline for undergraduate teaching quality, overall educational experience, learner engagement, skills development, and student support by QILT – Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching. The School offers a range of disciplines including Arts, Criminology & Justice, Design, Media & Communications, Psychology, Social Science, Social work, and Visual Arts. The School operates across all of ECU’s campuses, and will be a key member of the new $695m Creative Industries, Business and Technology Campus scheduled for completion in 2025, a bold initiative set to transform the City of Perth and play a key role in its future economic performance and prosperity.

A member of the University Executive Committee and reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the appointee will shape not only the ongoing development of the School of Arts and Humanities, but also contribute to the wider strategic direction of the University. The successful candidate will demonstrate significant leadership experience, marked by an inspiring, energetic, inclusive, and highly effective management style. With a proven track record in leading a complex entity in Arts and Humanities or a related area, the next Executive Dean will ideally also demonstrate experience in an education environment along with the ability to set and deliver a transformational agenda, with a view to broadening the reach of School of Arts & Humanities and creating a solid platform for the future growth and development of the academy.
