We require an experienced Food Engineer and/or Engineering Programme Leader to drive forward NCFM’s Higher and Degree Apprenticeships in Food Engineering and related short courses for the food manufacturing sector, along with Degree Apprenticeships in Engineering more widely.

As the Programme Leader, you will play a key role in shaping food engineering training and education for years to come, working with engineering managers across the UK to build an offer that will both raise the skills levels of existing engineers and attract young people into the industry. The role requires an experienced food engineer, ideally with a balance of mechanical and electrical skills and an awareness and understanding of engineering related digital technologies. The role will suite a food engineering professional seeking to change career, who if not already qualified, is keen to train to be a teacher in Higher Education. The role will also suit an experienced Programme Leader in Education from a college or university who has knowledge of the food manufacturing sector.

A satellite campus of the University of Lincoln, The NCFM is a major resource for the UK’s food industry with over 250 major companies accessing courses, technical services and research. Our clients include the major national and global food manufacturing businesses and retailers and we collaborate with many international partners and universities. The NCFM has outstanding sector-focused facilities, including a state-of-the-art food factory demonstrating cutting edge food automation. The NCFM is part of the Lincolnshire Institute of Technology(IoT) and  a new IoT Digital Food Manufacturing Technologies Centre is being established on the South Lincolnshire Food Enterprise Zone, complementing a £7M investment in a flagship Centre of Excellence in Agri-food Technologies which will support research, innovation and skills.

NCFM’s students are employed in the food industry and study on a part-time basis, with distance learning supported by block release the platform for delivery. The post holder will be committed to helping students learn and to the continued improvement in teaching practice and the student experience. With our provision underpinned by distance learning, the post holder will need to be IT savvy and open to experimentation in digital teaching and learning.

Employer engagement to support students and recruitment is a key element of this role and the post holder must be able to engage engineering managers in food manufacturing businesses in support of the scheme and growing and shaping provision. NCFM also delivers provision for other sectors in partnership with the Lincoln School of Engineering. As such the post holder will be responsible for liaising with colleagues in the School of Engineering to oversee the quality of provision and engage employers in sectors outside of the food industry.

The post is offered on a Teaching and Professional Practice contract and is focused on teaching and curriculum leadership with research activity. It is not suitable for individuals seeking a role which is predominantly research focused.
