Applications are invited for the post of Teaching Fellow in Musical Performance and Digital Arts in the Department of Music
The position, which will run from 1 September 2021 until 31 January 2025, has become available by virtue of the award of a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship to Dr Zubin Kanga for the research project, ‘Cyborg Soloists; Advancing Interdisciplinary Music in the Post-Internet Age through New Musician-Technology Interactions’. Teaching in musical performance at undergraduate and Master’s level will form its core activity, as part of a performance team headed by Dr Mary Dullea. This will involve teaching and assessment of existing performance modules and, subsequently, development of new modules; these activities should include further extension of core performance teaching into electronic, popular, and/or other digital arenas. The successful applicant will also contribute to development of the Department’s digital strategy and, more broadly, that of the School of Performing and Digital Arts and the College. This will involve teaching and curriculum development in music technology, including but possibly extending beyond performance, to digital composition, audio and sound design for games, and other aspects of the digital arts. Ability to contribute towards other aspects of departmental teaching will also be valued. Departmental administrative and tutorial duties will be undertaken as required.
You will be educated to at least Master’s and, ideally, doctoral level in a relevant subject and hold high-quality teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Higher Education. Experience and skills in teaching small and large groups of students performing across a large range of genres, instruments and abilities will be required. You will be familiar with virtual learning environments and a range of computer software, both general (e.g. Powerpoint) and more subject-specific. You will show evidence of a developing research profile and commitment to continuous personal development.
