Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be associated to BPP Manchester's office, but flexibility will be applied to enable work from home or office as required.

Work may be required anywhere in the UK for periods of up to 1 week in duration.

The Head of PMO is responsible for ensuring BPP initiate projects in line with the strategic vision and manage projects in line with the PMO minimum standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Day to day management of PMO staff
  • Ensure consistent tools, techniques & methods are used for projects managed within BPP, including those managed by colleagues outside the PMO
  • Set the strategic direction of the PMO, ensuring it aligns with, & supports, BPP's overall strategy
  • Report on all appropriate project statuses across BPP; use this data to evaluate the progress of relevant projects
  • Manage & create the annual PMO departmental budget and reforecasting submissions
  • Lead on the creation of the Capex budget (and subsequent tracking) in relation to projects
  • Accountable for the Portfolio project board
  • Responsible for professional administration relating to project submissions & approvals through agreed prioritisation and approval process
  • Produce agreed levels of Portfolio reporting on all applicable projects being delivered or within the oversight of the Head of PMO
  • Accountable for the coaching & mentoring of staff managing BPP projects
  • Identify internal or external resources required to successfully deliver projects
  • Engage with Directors/senior managers to identify opportunities for change
  • Collate qualitative and quantitative information on project performance for internal management purposes
  • Own the PMO central repository of documentation & processes including the PM Toolkit
  • Facilitate sharing of best practice through informal communities of action, PMO collaboration and/or formal training sessions

Candidate Criteria

  • Prince 2 or other relevant professional/academic qualification (desirable)
  • Significant Programme/project management experience
  • Formal training in Project Management disciplines
  • Familiar with methodologies and project tools such as PRINCE2 and Microsoft Project
  • Able to develop effective relationships with all BPP and client staff
  • Commercially aware; able to identify business opportunities, and be aware of the associated risks. Able to balance the financial, quality, people and customer expectation related risks.
  • Strategically focused, mindful of objectives and strategies, not be deflected by matters of detail
  • Customer focused; anticipate, understand and manage customer expectations, and ensure customer requirements are met. Build partner relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Effective communication skills suitable for the management of and liaison with staff and senior management, including orally and in writing, reports and presentations.
  • Effective at contributing towards the objectives of a team, and be able to share knowledge, ideas and information
  • Effective at managing and motivating people, adopting an appropriate style to foster good team working.
  • Effective at acquiring an understanding of a problem/situation and developing an approach to interact with the situation and solve problems in a measured, creative way
  • Effective at balancing long and short term objectives
  • A credible influencer and role model
