Role Description

Cranfield University’s world-class expertise, large-scale facilities and unrivalled industry partnerships is creating leaders in technology and management globally. Learn more about Cranfield and our unique impact here.

Cranfield Finance welcomes applications from experienced Accounting professionals with significant experience in a large organisational setting (ideally Higher Education).

About Finance

The role of this Professional Service Unit (PSU) is to ensure that all financial data is processed to enable payments to be made and received accurately and timely and that relevant and reliable information is available to all stakeholders.  This covers both the University and its subsidiary companies (Cranfield Management Development Ltd, Cranfield Innovative Manufacturing Ltd, Cranfield Engineering Innovations Ltd, Cranfield Quality Services Ltd and Cranfield Airport Operations Ltd.)

Finance is also responsible for monitoring financial growth of the University and identifying at an early stage, any potential detrimental variances and to then work with all relevant stake holders to put plans in place to address these issues.

About the Role

The role of Head of Professional Services Accounting is to provide appropriate management information for key staff in all of our PSUs, ensuring that monthly, quarterly, yearly and forward forecast reports and procedures are carried out efficiently, accurately and to tight timescales.

This position is expected to also manage the annual budget of the University’s capital expenditure and revenue budget. The capital expenditure budget is currently £20m and the revenue budget is £35m.

The position would suit a hard-working and reliable person, able to work to strict deadlines and take responsibility for their own workload.

About You

You will be a CCAB part qualified or qualified accountant, with significant experience in a large complex organisation or Higher Education setting. Substantial experience of working with computerised accounts systems and Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word are essential.  Previous experience of the Agresso finance system would be desirable, but not essential.

To be successful in the post you will need to demonstrate that you can work to high levels of accuracy – attention to detail and the ability to manage your own workload to meet set deadlines, is key.

In return, the successful applicant will have exciting opportunities for career development in this key senior position, and to support world leading research and education, joining a supportive team and environment.

Our Values

Our shared, stated values help to define who we are and underpin everything we do: Ambition; Impact; Respect; and Community. Find out more here. We aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together and realise their full potential.

Diversity and Inclusion
