Job Description

Several positions are available in the Department of Chemical Engineering at NUS. We are seeking talented and creative individuals to conduct high quality research in dynamic simulation, condition monitoring, nonlinear control, and energy integration under three projects. The candidates will develop state-of-the-art solutions involving large-scale process data analyses and simulation models, nonlinear MPC models and solution algorithms, and process/energy integration and optimization. The candidates are expected to have strong expertise and experience in process systems engineering techniques of design, simulation, control, integration, and optimization.

Qualifications

The positions require one or more of the following qualifications:

  1. A Bachelor’s or higher degree in Chemical Engineering.
  2. Strong programming skills.
  3. Strong mathematical, analytical, and modelling skills.
  4. Strong knowledge of process simulation software with experience in dynamic process simulation.
  5. Knowledge of process control, optimization, and energy integration.
  6. One or more years of academic research experience with publications in process systems modelling, simulation, optimization. Candidates with higher degrees or equivalent years of academic training will be preferred.

Familiarity with the chemical industry and operations is must, and the aptitude for, commitment to, and ability to do applied/academic research are mandatory.

The candidate must be able to work in an academic research environment, where both individual and team contributions are essential, and performance is measured in terms of novel and creative ideas, top-quality journal papers, and prestigious conference presentations.

Candidates should have interest and experience in research on systems modelling, dynamic process simulation, process optimization, process control, fault monitoring and diagnosis, energy integration, or relevant areas. Knowledge and experience in posing and solving novel and challenging engineering problems are highly desirable.

These are time-bound projects and achieving milestones in time is absolutely essential.

The candidate should have the desire to grow into new technical areas and learn new skills.

The candidate should have strong and demonstrated communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to interact with research and industry partners.

Suitably qualified applicants may send their applications along with a full resume (CV), publication list, and details of two academic referees.

Only short-listed candidates will be notified. Applications will be considered, until the positions are filled.
