Landscape Architecture and Urbanism (BA, MA, MLA, MSc and PhD) at the University of Greenwich is focused on the speculative design of future landscapes and cities informed by site-focused research.

The programmes encourage design invention and experimentation from within one of the oldest centres of landscape teaching in the UK, with notable lecturers such Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe and renowned graduates such as Marti Franch Matllori. The school is based in the award-winning Stockwell Street building within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Maritime Greenwich. It is the only institution in London offering Landscape Institute [LI] accredited education from BA to Masters.

The Landscape Architecture and Urbanism team is composed of leading design, ecology, and planning practitioners from across London and widely published research active academics. Students regularly receive recognition in the Landscape Institute Awards and the International Biennial of Landscape Architecture School’s Prize. The programmes have unique long-term relationships with industry employers, such as The Royal Parks and Landscape Institute, resulting in consistently high employment of graduates in London, the UK and abroad. National Student Survey results are some of the highest in the University of Greenwich. The primary purpose of this role is to develop, deliver and administer courses across the BA, MA, MLA and MSc Landscape Architecture, Urbanism and Urban Design programmes. 

The primary purpose of this role is to develop, deliver and administer courses across the BA, MA, MLA and MSc Landscape Architecture, Urbanism and Urban Design programmes. 

The role includes: teaching design and theory to Landscape Architecture, Urbanism and Urban Design students; developing high quality research projects; providing academic and pastoral care to students registered on the Landscape Architecture and Urbanism programmes; and enhancing student experience.

The post holder will coordinate Landscape Architecture and Urbanism courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level and to be responsible for the direct teaching of those courses.

In addition, the post holder will be required to undertake the following activities:

  • High quality research in the field of Landscape Architecture and Urbanism
  • Supervise PhD students
  • Contribute to the development of PhD research
  • Participate in the School research staff mentoring programme
  • Contribute to the School public engagement, network and international profile
  • Contribute to curriculum development

Candidates appointed at Senior Lecturer level are expected to demonstrate emerging leadership in a subject area and a growing reputation and impact across the Faculty, University, and more widely.
