• Salary Package: From $95,706 to $102,570 (Level A step 6-8) p.a., plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading

THE ROLE

We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to lead a project focusing on understanding the prevalence of hearing and vision impairment and care practices in relation to hearing/vision impairment for people in aged care settings in Australia. The project involves developing and coordinating a national survey of aged care staff with respect to identification and management of hearing impairment, evaluating the reliability of routine aged care assessment tools with respect to identification of hearing/vision impairment, modelling relationships between hearing/vision impairment and quality of life, care needs, functional ability, health service use and mental well-being using routine data, and working with consumer and community groups to understand the perspective of aged care staff, residents and friends/family members with respect to support for hearing/vision needs. The successful candidate will work closely with and directly report to Associate Professor Piers Dawes.

About You

You will have completed a PhD in psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, speech therapy, audiology, optometry, health sciences, public health or a related discipline. You will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. You will also have strong research skills and a capacity to coordinate complex projects, as well as a track record of publication in refereed scholarly journals or other demonstrated scholarly activities relative to experience and opportunity. Experience in aged care and/or aged care research is desirable.

Essential:

• A PhD in psychology, nursing, occupational therapy, speech therapy, audiology, optometry, health sciences, public health or a related discipline
• Proven experience in co-ordinating and contributing to research projects
• Ability to work independently and to use initiative in the planning of research
• A record of contributions to peer reviewed publications and history of research excellence, relative to experience and opportunity
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
• Knowledge of statistical techniques and numeric analysis
• Proficient use and knowledge of statistical platforms e.g: SPSS, R, Excel, STATA.

Desirable:

• Knowledge and experience of aged care services and/or aged care research
• Experience conducting surveys
• Knowledge of qualitative data analysis techniques
• Knowledge and experience of consumer and community engagement
• Experience working with older adults in research settings
