TITLE: Special Scientist (Research)

CATEGORY: Special Scientist contract (one year renewable up to three years) – Full time
LOCATION: University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus.
The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Cyprus announces one (1) vacant position of Special Scientist (Research). The related project involves the development of silicide-based thermoelectric modules from recycled silicon and is supported by the EU (ICARUS Project).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicants should hold a PhD in physics or engineering or material science or chemistry.
- Experience in developing thermoelectric modules is highly desirable. Experience and processing/measurements of powdered thermoelectric materials (i.e. ball milling, hot press sintering etc), XRD and SEM characterization as well as in electrical measurements (electrical conductivity, Seebeck and thermal conductivity) is also desirable.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities of the researcher include: synthesis of silicide thermoelectric materials, structural and morphological characterization, measurements of thermoelectric properties and evaluation, development of thermoelectric modules and testing, writing publications and reports etc.
Starting date may be between June 1st and Sep 1st, 2021.
REMUNERATION:
The monthly gross salary for full time employment is in the range of €2150 – €2600, depending on experience and qualifications. From this amount employee contributions to the various government funds will be deducted. There is no provision for 13th salary.
At least the best three candidates that satisfy the required qualifications, will be interviewed by a 3-member Committee.
