Royal Holloway is looking to appoint a Head of the School of Engineering, Physical and Mathematical Sciences. One of six schools across the university, this comprises of the Departments of Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics and Electronic Engineering and Information Security which is recognised as a UK Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR).

Reporting to the Senior Vice-Principal (Academic Strategy and Research) for the duration of the Head of School role, the appointed candidate will position the school to support the strategic needs of the university. Building on the outstanding research, student experience and commitment to diversity already in place, they will facilitate cooperation and interdisciplinary working.

They will lead innovations in response to changing demographics and student needs, with an eye to graduate employability and steer the research agenda, focusing on demand-led research, partnerships and collaboration.

The successful candidate will have a prominent role in institutional decision-making as a member of the College Executive. 

Candidates should bring experience of effective strategic leadership in an academic role, such as Head of Department or Head of School and will have made a tangible impact in post.  A track record of research leadership, student engagement and a passion for supporting a transformational experience is essential.  They will be comfortable providing leadership in both academic and professional service contexts, and will ideally have overseen a period of growth in their institution or department.   Demonstrable experience of effective delivery of change management projects combined with the ability to motivate and encourage staff to deliver high levels of performance are highly desirable attributes. 

The Head of School is a 5-year appointment with the possibility of extension by mutual agreement.  Underlying the Head of School role there will be a permanent professorial appointment based in the Department relevant to specific area of expertise of the successful applicant.  For more information, please visit www.minervasearch.com/rhul.
