Research Assistant - Power system analysis and control (Electrical & Biomedical Engineering)

  • Full-time, 1-year fixed term position based at RMIT City campus but may be required to work and/or be based at another campus of the University
  • Opportunity to conduct high quality and effective research & development activities in power system analysis and control
  • Report directly to the Associate Dean, Electrical and Biomedical Engineering with day-to-day reporting to the Project Leader Associate Professor Mahdi Jalili
  • Remuneration at Academic Level A ($68,983 - $93,569) + 17% superannuation

About You and the Role

You will be responsible for:

  • Conduct effective & efficient research individually or as part of a team, including: managing research projects within timelines and budget and deliver the research outcomes through publications in high quality journals as lead or co-author;
  • Prepare & produce competitive research grant proposals, applications and generating funding through strong linkage and effective liaison with industry and government;
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively with national and international researchers in contributing to high-quality research outcomes and developing new research initiatives, as well as delivery of seminars and conference attendance;
  • Contribute 10% of your time to mentor & supervise undergraduate students and participate in learning program activities appropriate to areas of expertise related to the research project.

Qualifications

Mandatory: PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics.

Desirable:

  • Demonstrated excellent research track record and recognition for quality research outputs in demand forecasting and/or deep learning, evidenced by publications, development of new research initiatives, competitive research funding, and industry links;
  • Extensive experience with Power Factory simulation package
  • Experience in teaching & supervision at undergraduate levels;

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
