The Department of Media Arts, Royal Holloway, University of London, wishes to recruit a Lecturer (Teaching Focused) in Media Arts to teach on its highly successful BA program in Digital Media Culture and Technology based at its Egham campus. The appointment will be made at Lecturer grade 8, with start point varying according to experience and qualifications.

The post will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to teach on our Digital Media Degree, to play a key role in its development in shaping content and structure and to work closely with the student cohort. The post also offers the candidate the chance to teach modules in gaming, interactive and immersive design and creative digital arts. These are fields of strategic growth investment for the College and the successful candidate will demonstrate a pro-active ability to develop new modules and pathways to expand teaching and recruitment in these areas.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to work in a prestigious academic institution, with Royal Holloway placed 24^th in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide national rankings for 2019, and the Department of Media Arts ranked in the top ten for the subject in REF 2014. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work closely with senior colleagues in the Department of Media Arts and the School of Performing and Digital Arts in a period of exciting development for the College.

The successful candidate will have experience of teaching in Digital Media at undergraduate level. They should have been awarded a PhD in a relevant field or show significant practical or industry success commensurate with the highest level of academic study.

The candidate’s demonstration of an ability and preparedness to teach both theoretical and practical elements of the degree pathway will be critical. Of particular relevance will be the ability to teach a range of theoretical and critical perspectives in new media studies with expertise in one or more of the following or related areas: internet histories, digital cultures, digital arts, surveillance and media histories and/or data-driven work practices. Equally, the candidate will be expected to deliver experimental introductory modules in creative code, creative digital arts and/or basic game development.

The job holder will report to the Head of Department of Media Arts, undertaking appropriate managerial and administrative duties. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational, team-working and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities to engage with students and colleagues.
