Full Professor in Engineering, with focus on Process Engineering for the hydrogen economy, Paul Wurth Chair

About the University

The University of Luxembourg aspires to be a highly regarded European University with a distinctly international and interdisciplinary character. It fosters the cross-fertilisation of research and teaching, is relevant to its country, is known worldwide for its research and teaching in targeted areas, and is establishing itself as an innovative model for contemporary European Higher Education.

The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine. The FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens, in order to better understand, explain and advance society and the environment we live in.

The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine is opening for its Department of Engineering a full professor position in process engineering with focus on hydrogen technology. This position will benefit from a very significant level of support both from the University and from the company Paul Wurth, allowing for the rapid development of an active research group. In addition, the new professor will have access to significant funding opportunities at national level, targeted towards hydrogen development, as well as to European funding.

Your Role

The new professor will be expected to:

  • Build up a research group with high international visibility in the general area of process engineering for the hydrogen economy, and perform research with high international visibility and impact in this area
  • Apply for third-party funding to further develop her/his group
  • Establish and develop relations with national and international industrial partners
  • Contribute to the scientific strategy of the department of engineering
  • Contribute to the teaching of bachelor and master programs in engineering, and to doctoral training

Your Profile

The Faculty is seeking candidates with an outstanding research and development record in any area of hydrogen technology such as production, transport, storage or in any hydrogen application leading to lower CO2 emissions, e.g., the use of hydrogen in steel production.

The position will be supported over the first 5 years by an industrial chair generously endowed by the company Paul Wurth. As a consequence, the new professor will have an exceptional level of funding and the possibility of setting up a large research group. We expect further developments at the University of Luxembourg in the area of hydrogen technology. The successful candidate is expected to apply for additional third-party funding (e.g., the prestigious PEARL programme of Luxembourg’s national research fund FNR, or an ERC advanced/consolidator grant).

The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and either French or German. The University encourages its staff to learn the other language and provides access to language courses to this end.
