Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation

Since its inception in 1996 The University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) has enjoyed consistent growth and has developed into a vibrant, multi-campus institution.  The University continues to be an engine for building capacity and stimulating cultural, artistic, sporting and economic activity in the region.

Sunshine Coast is a young and ambitious university, not limited by tradition or past practice, which strives to pass this mindset on to its students and staff.  The University is consistently ranked by students as one of Australia’s best universities for teaching quality and overall student experience, and by employers as one of the country’s leading producers of highly employable graduates.  It has numerous research strengths including marine ecology, agriculture and forestry, human factors and sports and sustainability.

Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation)will provide strategic oversight of the University’s research activities and progress the University’s entire research agenda while providing institutional leadership as a member of the senior executive team.

The successful candidate should have experience working with industry, start ups and in overall commercialisation as the University is looking for leadership in this area. Also important will be the ability to work effectively with government to build links which advance the University’s research agenda.

The new DVC R&I will need excellent people and communication skills, and should be capable of relating to a broad group of stakeholders across many disciplines. USC has recently established six new schools and the DVC R&I needs to be capable of working effectively with that group to provide a collaborative and focused approach to the University’s research efforts.
