The Department of English of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Linguistics in English, preferably specializing in one of the following fields: a) semantics and pragmatics; b) language and technology (in particular, corpus linguistics); and c) other areas of applied linguistics.

The Department of English is an established and distinguished multinational, scholarly community. The Department offers an undergraduate degree in English Studies, focusing on Linguistics and Literary Studies, as well as elective courses in Translation Studies. At the postgraduate level, the Department offers an MA in English Studies and an MA in Translation Studies. There are two PhD areas, in (i) English Literary Studies and (ii) English Linguistics. FAH is home to the Centre for Studies in Translation, Interpreting and Cognition (http://cstic.um.edu.mo) and a state-of-the-art Cognitive Laboratory. The Department also contributes courses to the General Education programme.

Qualifications
The successful candidate should have a PhD in Linguistics or related areas, teaching experience at tertiary level, and a record of research accomplishment appropriate to the rank of Assistant Professor. Applicants for the position should be able to demonstrate competence in teaching, promising publication potential, a willingness to provide service to the University, and an interest in English in the Asian context. Candidates with quality research publications and teaching experience in semantics/pragmatics, corpus linguistics, and/or other areas of applied linguistics will be particularly welcome.
The selected candidate is expected to assume duty in as early as January 2022. 

Remuneration
A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP828,100 (approximately USD102,230) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
