Job description
The King's British Heart Foundation (BHF) Centre of Research Excellence pursues research that aims to advance the early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. A specific focus of the Centre is heart failure, an end-point of many common cardiovascular conditions. The Centre has approximately 100 core and affiliated PIs who cover a very wide range of basic, applied and clinical expertise. It provides a dynamic environment for inter-disciplinary research and training including excellent links to the clinical services of King's Health Partners.

We seek to appoint an outstanding and ambitious data scientist with 3-5 years' postdoctoral experience who is at the stage of transition to independence. The postholder will develop and lead a programme of work that complements existing expertise in the centre by integrating clinical informatics from electronic health care records, blood-based biomarkers and imaging data to stratify risk and predict responses to treatment. The successful candidate will have expertise in predictive modelling using multi-dimensional data sets and will, ideally, have some experience in natural language processing of electronic patient records. The post would suit a suitably qualified and experienced candidate with a background in computer science, bioinformatics or engineering. The award covers personal salary and research expenses, as well as access to PhD Studentships and other BHF Centre internal funding schemes. The expectation is that the postholder will develop a strong external Intermediate Fellowship application and/or become competitive for Faculty positions.

The successful candidate will have a track record of outstanding first or lead author 3*/4* publications and demonstrable ability to drive independent research. Previous experience in health informatics, biostatistics, analysis of multiple large data sets, machine and deep learning is essential. As part of the King's BHF Centre, the successful candidate will be able to interact with data scientists within the KCL AI Centre and the Department of Biostatistics & Health Informatics, as well as a wide range of other clinical and basic scientists.

This is a full time position for a fixed-term of 3 years.
