Lecturer in Publishing – Full Time Permanent
MSc Publishing at Edinburgh Napier University is an internationally renowned postgraduate programme celebrating over 50 years of excellence in Publishing education. Award-winning and market-leading, we were first to appoint a Publisher in Residence, first to establish a student-run Publishing imprint, first to launch an industry funded Scholarship, first to secure accreditation, and we remain the only Publishing course to be doubly accredited by the only two accrediting bodies in the UK.
This is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic and dedicated team, delivering to the highest standards at postgraduate level.
MSc Publishing sits within the School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI) and you will be based at our Merchiston Campus, located in the beautiful and historic heart of Morningside, Edinburgh. We are currently the top UK modern university for English (1st of 53), The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021, and the top UK modern university for Media & Film Studies (1st of 51), The Guardian University Guide 2021. Edinburgh is the world’s first UNESCO City of Literature and the home of Scottish publishing. Each year the capital is host to a number of internationally celebrated literary and publishing events, including the Saltire Literary Awards, Edinburgh Comic Con, the Publishing Scotland and Booksellers Association Scottish Book Trade Conference and, of course, the world-renowned Edinburgh International Book Festival.
Our teaching team is widely recognised for their expertise and excellence in publishing practice, our work is enhanced by industry collaboration, and our ethos embraces a strong social and ethical focus, instilling in our graduates a sense of global citizenship and social responsibility.
We seek a dynamic and pioneering academic to help deliver our new vision for a Publishing programme, someone who continues to push the boundaries of excellence in teaching, research and practice.
The role
We are looking to appoint an exceptional Lecturer with extensive professional Publishing experience, with demonstrable recent teaching expertise. You will hold a doctorate, have an innovative and collaborative approach to teaching and research, and be able to demonstrate expertise across a range of areas including (but not limited to) book, magazine and digital publishing, as well as publishing in the global marketplace.
If successful, you will be working with a small, specialist and highly dedicated MSc Publishing team to develop, design and deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching and learning, which reflects our focus on professional Publishing, our research expertise and our international outlook.
This will involve teaching, supporting and assessing postgraduate Publishing students, supervising Publishing projects and dissertations, contributing to curriculum planning and development, and engaging in research and scholarly activity.
Who we are looking for
Applicants must demonstrate:
- A PhD in a relevant subject.
- Professional experience and expertise developed during a career in the Publishing industry.
- Experience of and interest in digital publishing in an international context.
- Excellent technical proficiency using industry standard software.
- Strong network of industry contacts.
- Significant teaching experience supported by a strong, relevant research profile.
