Role Description

Cranfield’s world-class expertise, large-scale facilities and unrivalled industry partnerships is creating leaders in technology and management globally.  Our distinctive expertise is in our deep understanding of technology and management and how these work together to benefit the world.

The British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) is seeking a Project Coordinator to join its small, friendly team on a fixed-term contract. The role is based within Cranfield University’s School of Water, Energy and the Environment and based at the Cranfield campus.

About British Society of Soil Science (BSSS)

The British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) is an established international membership organisation committed to the study of soil in its widest aspects. The society brings together those working within academia, practitioners implementing soil science in industry and all those working with, or with an interest in soils.

For further information on the British Society of Soil Science visit www.soils.org.uk.

The 22nd World Congress of Soil Science (WCSS) will be delivered by BSSS at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow from 31 July – 5 August 2022. The international event is held every four years where those with an interest in soil science can meet to discuss the critical global issues relating to soil. The Congress includes a year-long arts programme, Our Living Soil, which through a range of public engagement activities, will highlight the need for increased soil awareness.

About the Role

The Project Coordinator will provide administrative support for all aspects of the World Congress of Soil Science project and in the recording, monitoring and reporting of information. It will also provide support to the Education Committee of the Society.

About You

With proven experience of coordinating projects, you will be responsible for liaising with our WCSS Working Group and professional congress organiser to support them with delivery of the operational aspects of the Congress. You will work closely with stakeholders, funders, congress attendees and volunteers and provide project support, information and data as required. You will organise and minute meetings and manage the accounting and financial reporting associated with the Congress.

There will be a requirement to coordinate work on behalf of the Society and to attend meetings and events at various locations in the UK.

Our Values

Our shared, stated values help to define who we are and underpin everything we do: Ambition; Impact; Respect; and Community. Find out more here. We aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together and realise their full potential.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our equal opportunities and diversity monitoring has shown that women and minority ethnic groups are currently underrepresented within the university and so we actively encourage applications from eligible candidates from these groups.

To further demonstrate our commitment to progressing gender diversity in STEM, we are members of WES & Working Families, and sponsors of International Women in Engineering Day.

Flexible Working

We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking, and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role. Find out more here.

How to apply
