INSTITUTE OF TEXTILES AND CLOTHING
The Institute of Textiles and Clothing is a constituent unit of the Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles, the pioneer of tertiary education in textiles and clothing in Hong Kong, and the leading centre for education and research in the textile and clothing field in the region. The Institute is home to a wide range of academic programmes covering subject disciplines from fashion and textile technology, fashion and textile design, fashion and textile marketing and merchandising, to fashion retailing and distribution. Instructor in Fashion Design / Textile Design (Ref. 21021908)
The appointee will be required to:
(a) engage in teaching and learning activities, and conduct lectures, tutorials, seminars and practical sessions in the related subject areas;
(b) prepare and develop teaching materials, design teaching and assessment strategies, deliver teaching in academic settings appropriate for the objective of learning, interact with and motivate students, and assess the performance of and give feedback to students;
(c) contribute to the development of subject curriculum, and overall teaching and learning approach as well as in subject administration and activities pertaining to programme management;
(d) assist in the development and management of relevant teaching facilities;
(e) participate in scholarly research and consultancy projects; and
(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Institute or his delegates.
Applicants should have:
(a) a master’s degree, preferably with a PhD degree, in a relevant discipline, or a relevant professional qualification;
(b) not less than two years of post-qualification tertiary teaching experience and/or industrial experience in pattern design and/or clothing technology, preferably at international level;
(c) demonstrated promise of a high level of competence in teaching and carrying out subject administration responsibilities;
(d) sound knowledge of university teaching in the areas such as clothing technology, pattern cutting or garment construction, 3D modelling, menswear design, intimate apparel and activewear design and project, textile design, accessories design, sustainable fashion design, or fashion history;
(e) solid technical skills of computer design software; and
(f) good communication skills and the ability to use English as the medium of instruction.
Applicants are expected to submit their fashion design e-portfolios including ten samples of their artwork, each with a brief description, together with the completed application.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
