The Centre for Energy Systems and Strategy within Energy and Power theme welcomes applications to contribute towards a research project in Industrial Energy Systems Modelling.

Cranfield Energy and Power is one of eight themes at Cranfield University offering world-class and niche post-graduate level research, education, training and consultancy. Our unique industrial-scale facilities underpin our research and development in energy technologies, including biofuels, biomass for energy, carbon capture and offshore oil and gas. As one of the four centres within Energy and Power, Centre for Energy Systems and Strategy pioneers multi-disciplinary approach by bringing together energy and power systems modelling, digital tools (peer to peer trading, AI), social, policy and regulatory aspects of energy transitions, with a focus on simulation and modelling.

About the Role

Your role will be to contribute to industrial energy systems modelling activities within Centre for Energy Systems and Strategy. Our current portfolio includes ‘Optimising Energy Management in Industry’ (OPTEMIN) project funded by EPSRC and ‘Achieving zero–waste heat in iron and steel industry’ (AZWIN) project endorsed by Royal Academy of Engineering. These two projects aim to develop novel models to characterise and manage the demands for and interactions between heat and electricity in iron and steel sector. You might be expected to contribute to other research projects analyzing the performance of novel technologies using data analytics methods.

About You

You will be educated to doctoral level in industrial energy systems modelling and have experience of developing energy system or process models with a particular focus on interactions between power and heat vectors. With excellent team-working and inter-personal skills, you will have peer reviewed journal publication record.

In return, you will have exciting opportunities for career development in this key post-doc position, and to support world leading research and education, joining a supportive team and environment.

Our Values

Our shared, stated values help to define who we are and underpin everything we do: Ambition; Impact; Respect; and Community. Find out more here. We aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together and realise their full potential.

Diversity and Inclusion

To further demonstrate our commitment to progressing gender diversity in STEM, we are members of WES & Working Families, and sponsors of International Women in Engineering Day.
