The establishment of an Associate Professor in Allied Health at The University of Melbourne, the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Mercy Hospital for Women will provide leadership to support the generation of high-quality clinical research targeted towards the health and well-being of women and children. This leadership will extend across knowledge generation, implementation, research training, teaching and practice. The appointee will be expected to foster the translation of research findings for health professionals, clients, consumer organisations, industry partners and the general community to ensure that women and children will receive the most effective, evidence led allied health interventions for their conditions.

The appointee will be actively involved in research in the area of paediatrics, women’s health and/or oncology. and have a visible and growing track record in managing a high-level research agenda, as well as facilitate and support clinician research growth across allied health. Guided by the values of each institution, they will demonstrate a significant contribution to research at a national and international level in the allied health fields of either physiotherapy or social work, and make independent and original contributions to the discipline. This standing will be demonstrated by an excellent publication and grant track record relative to opportunity.

The appointee will provide leadership in research and research translation in paediatrics and/or women’s health. They will work closely with key stakeholders across each hospital partnership to generate high quality clinical research targeting the health and well-being of people attending the hospitals and their families, and be an active partner in the delivery of excellent care through the translation of research into clinical practice. They are expected to make a significant contribution to the strategic directions, growth, mentorship and ongoing development of clinical research, including research training, within the departments of Allied Health at the Women’s, MHW and the Melbourne School of Health Sciences, and to enhance the academic standing of these Departments, Faculty and The University. They will undertake administration and management duties as appropriate within the Departments and Faculty or as directed by their line managers. The appointee will have a PhD in the allied health discipline of either physiotherapy or social work, and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) or equivalent.

The appointee will be physically located at each of the hospital sites. Registered practitioners from the disciplines of physiotherapy and social work are invited to apply.
