Our work informs cutting-edge debates on human groups, individuals, and their environments by integrating disciplinary and professional approaches. The Faculty is looking for applicants who show excellence in research and teaching for the following position. 

Associate / Assistant Professor in Department of Government and International Studies (PR0247/20-21)

The Department of Government and International Studies (GIS) was established in 1994. It trains students in different aspects of political science, with a strong emphasis on international relations and comparative politics, and in European Studies. The Department offers two undergraduate programmes: BSocSc (Hons) in Government and International Studies (political science, with an emphasis on comparative politics and international relations) and BSocSc (Hons) in European Studies (with an emphasis on the study of French- and German-speaking areas of Europe). 

Playing an important role in the internationalization efforts of the University, the Department also contributes to teaching in the Global and China Studies programme, and participate in several master’s programmes for the Faculty, including Master of Public Administration, Master of Arts in Global Society and Master of Social Sciences (Contemporary China Studies).

Research expertise of the Department are the changing foundations of international and intra-national relations (including Hong Kong, Mainland China and the World; Chinese foreign policy and the international dimensions of European integration); international political economy; Chinese, Hong Kong and East Asian politics; European politics and area studies; social and protest movements; and urban politics and comparative public administration.

The appointee is expected to contribute in strengthening the Department’s research and teaching in one or more of the following areas: (i) European and German-speaking politics, societies and business life; (ii) international security studies (Europe-Asia, transpacific geo-politics and geo-economics); and (iii) public administration. The appointed colleague will use both English and German as languages of instruction. She/He is also expected to apply for research grants in areas of political science, international relations and international political economy; lead the German stream of the European Studies programme; apply for competitive research grants; and publish high ranking and high impact peer-reviewed monographs or journals.

Requirements:
Applicants should have a relevant PhD degree, appropriate teaching and research experience in higher education, and solid track records in competitive research grant and publication. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor should have a strong publication record, success in competitive research grant applications as principal investigator, and hybrid or online teaching experience. 

This is a tenure-track position with initial appointment on a fixed-term contract of two to three years commencing September 2021. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement. Tenured appointment is expected to be attained within six years. Outstanding candidates at Associate Professor rank may be considered for tenure on appointment.

Rank and Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
