The Sport, Exercise and Health (SEH) subject group has grown rapidly in the previous 5 years to a position where it now has a suite of three undergraduate degree programmes; Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Coaching and Physical Activity and Health. It also has a number of innovative CPD Pathways within the undergraduate programmes including a collaboration with the Scottish FA and also an overseas programme in Singapore. The taught post-graduate provision is in two areas – M.Sc Sport Performance Enhancement and M.Sc Clinical Exercise Science. 

In additional to the commitment to excellence in teaching the SEH Research Group is a vibrant community of researchers that has experienced exponential growth in research and knowledge exchange activity since 2015. The group is aiming for its first independent REF submission in UoA24 in 2021.  

The role
You will contribute to undergraduate teaching in; Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Coaching and Physical Activity and Health and for post-graduate teaching our MSc Sport Performance Enhancement MSc Clinical Exercise Science and supervise research degrees. You will provide leadership to students and colleagues with a blend of face to face and online support. You will also act as the lead in our impact case study contributing directly to the REF mentioned above.

Who we are looking for
You will have a strong academic background in quantitative research methods and data analysis within Sports and Exercise Science. This quantitative methodology will complement our established team of exercise physiology, biomechanics and sports psychologists, giving you the ability to contribute and work collaboratively  in key areas within the subject group - mountain biking, sports coaching, talent development environment, sports officiating and clinical exercise science.

You will be able to demonstrate a level of achievement appropriate to the post being applied for, including national and international standing, research track record of high quality outputs, external income generation, and academic leadership. You should be able to evidence sufficient breadth and depth of experience in one or more of the areas mentioned above to influence and lead the development of high quality teaching/learning and research programmes 

  • A doctoral level qualification in the relevant or equivalent applied expertise.
  • Evidence of a professional academic and research profile alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.
  • Demonstrable evidence of a teaching specialisation.
  • Demonstrable experience of use of data analysis techniques using platforms such as R or Python. 
  • Commitment to deliver and provide leadership of face to face, blended, and online teaching for both on-campus and off-campus delivery 
  • Strong influencing, leadership and people management skills
