JOB PURPOSE:

The Social Media Content Specialist reports to the Social Media & Digital Community Strategist of the Hoover Institution and is responsible for the management of the social media accounts for participating Hoover fellows through the production and curation of digital content and strategic partnerships. The specialist will develop tools for fellows to manage and understand social platforms while expanding their reach. The specialist will analyze reports, cultivate partnerships, as well as ensure seamless integration with the Institution’s overall social media strategy to promote the Institution's mission, brand, fellows, and public policy research priorities.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Produce and curate well-written and visually appealing digital content to engage users, increase user base, and grow channels. Optimize content delivery strategies; build content topics, tailor content to outlet platform, and target specific audiences. 
  • Strategize to build and grow digital community through social media channels, paid advertising campaigns, blogs, and the web including leveraging partnerships for fellows across social media platforms.
    • Partner with members of the Hoover fellowship to promote their research, analysis and commentary by setting them up with a successful social media presence.
    • Develop tools for fellows and support staff to use to understand and use the platforms. 
  • Manage social listening efforts based on comments and online conversations. Respond to reputation risks by taking appropriate action and recommend solutions to minimize harm. 
  • Compile data, analyze and report on social media use. Analyze how content is performing and create reports with recommendations to management. 
  • Build support for social initiatives among internal stakeholders by acting as internal advocate for digital community efforts, building support and driving digital best practices. 
  • Contribute to overall development and refinement of digital community strategy, and innovative social initiatives by proposing and implementing recommendations. 
  • Provide customer service to constituents across digital channels; Represent organization to constituents, campus, media. 
  • May supervise interns, entry-level staff, and volunteers.

ADDITIONAL CORE DUTIES*:

  • Work closely with the Social Media Strategist to understand and assist in the implementation of Hoover’s social media plan across all related platforms.
  • Use and share the various modes of communication and marketing tools of all social media platforms.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and minimum one year of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience required.  Three years of relevant experience strongly preferred including knowledge of and experience in the field of public policy.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to build lasting relationships and strong communities; customer focus. 
  • Knowledge of the web, technology, social platforms, current and future trends. 
  • Highly organized and creative. 
  • Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules. 
  • Demonstrated team player.

Desired/Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience managing individual and organizational social media accounts.
  • An understanding of public policy research center/think tank use of social media to reach target audiences.
  • Strong research and writing skills with an ability to distill complicated policy issues into short form content necessary. 
  • Ability to illustrate proven success with growing various social media audiences and increasing engagement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
